The CSI – Tau Chapter recently hosted a powerful professional development webinar focused on Trans culture and affirming practices in counseling. The webinar brought together counseling students, alumni, and faculty to deepen understanding, promote inclusivity, and strengthen competence when working with transgender and gender-diverse clients and students.
Led by experienced professionals and advocates in the field, the webinar explored key topics including:
- Understanding gender identity and expression within diverse cultural contexts
- Creating affirming and inclusive counseling environments
- Addressing systemic barriers impacting trans and gender-diverse communities
- Reflecting on personal and professional growth as counselors
Participants engaged in meaningful dialogue, and reflection on how counselors can embody advocacy, empathy, and cultural humility in their practice. The webinar emphasized that effective counseling is rooted in respect, awareness, and a genuine commitment to supporting those we work with and their authentic selves.
The Counselor Education faculty and CSI chapter officers were proud to sponsor this event as part of our ongoing mission to promote professional excellence, ethical leadership, and social justice in counseling.
Feedback from attendees was overwhelmingly positive, with many sharing that the webinar provided both new insights and practical strategies for their clinical work and personal development.
The Tau Chapter plans to continue offering professional development events that center on equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive counseling. By fostering these conversations, CSI continues to uphold its values of learning, leadership, and service—ensuring that our future counselors are prepared to support all with competence, compassion, and care.
