This year, our Tau Chapter of CSI took a creative leap forward! Counselor Education celebrated the 2024-2025 Milman Scholars award recipients. We hosted our first-ever virtual “Arts in Counseling” web conference on May 17th, 2025, showcasing the incredible creativity and talent of our Clinical Mental Health and School Counseling candidates through their projects for the Milman Scholarship; this year we had 22 awardees.
For three hours, attendees were treated to an inspiring series of presentations where each awardee shared their unique arts-based counseling project. From visual to performing arts—including dance, synthesized sound, music, painting, drawing, poetry, and more—candidates brought to life the many ways creativity can deepen connection, healing, and expression within the counseling process.
The Counselor Education faculty was impressed by the breadth and depth of our candidates’ work. Their projects reflected not only artistic skill but also insight into how the arts can be integrated into counseling practice to promote growth and wellness. To celebrate and share this event more broadly, we recorded the entire conference and plan to make highlights and related resources available.
Inspired by the success of this year’s event, we are thrilled to announce that we are in the early stages of developing a new Creative Arts in Counseling course, designed to help candidates further explore the therapeutic power of creativity in their counseling work.
Our virtual conference was a beautiful reminder of the imagination, heart, and purpose that our counseling community brings to every endeavor. We look forward to seeing how this initiative continues to grow and inspire!
